Naturescape Landscapes San Diego Historical Society House

by Bill Schwab

Giving back to the community is an important part of what Bill Schwab, Naturescape owner and president is about. After only 14 months in business in California, Bill has donated the installation of the irrigation, landscape, and patio paving for the San Diego Historical Society's Showcase Home.

"After just being here for a year, I feel that San Diego has given so much to me, I felt that I wanted to give back to my new community. When I found out about the opportunity at the Showcase house I wanted to participate. I am a history buff, so this seemed like a natural fit," said Bill.

Each year the Historical Society chooses a home in the San Diego area to renovate. Decorators vie for the opportunity to decorate one room of the home. Once the home is complete, tours are given to raise funds to support the Historical Society throughout the year.

This year the SDHS has selected a Foursquare designed house as its showcase home. An architectural cousin of the Craftsman, this Mission Hills house, located at 4405 Trias Street was home to three generations of the Hay-Burke Family for more than 75 years. Great Uncle John Hay was President Lincoln's private secretary, rising later to ambassador to Great Britain and Secretary of State.

Naturescape donated more than 1200 man-hours to install all irrigation, plants, grass, and patio surfaces.

It's worth a trip to see this wonderful home and the beautiful gardens. Try to make time to see this area of San Diego; it is really worth the trip!
